The Cerberus Experience
I've shown the picture and can honestly get you the proof to back it up. Cerberus, the hound of the Underground!
Okay, so it's supposed to be Underworld, but Underground sounded better...
This one's for you Sarah!
"The trick with any beast is to know how to calm them.." - Hagrid, Sorcerers Stone (or Philosopher's Stone)
This is certainly the case with my experience when dealing with the three-headed terror whose name is loosely translated to "Spot". During the chaos that was happening in Griffin and Rhydin, sometimes referred to as the Gods War, I had heard about this guy terrorizing the Rhydin Cliffs. Chasing after hikers, trampling anything in its path, etc. I felt an obligation to reign him in, though I sure as hell didn't know how. Not going to lie, it's not like I personally studied the myths of the Greek culture outside of knowing some of the popularly known Gods.
So when I got to the cliffs, I didn't know what I was going to do, but I have a knack for communicating with animals and figuring out what makes them tick. I felt obligated to see if my skills would work on the formidable creature of the Underworld.
First of all, I don't recommend anyone doing what I did. Secondly, this is Cerberus, folks, not your run of the mill everyday dog. He is a beast and should be remembered to be treated as such. If you're seeking to tame and gain control of a beast, it's not an easy feat. This was not what I did. I established trust and mutual respect, not taking command.
However, even though he is a beast, he is also a pup. A gigantic, fearsome, dog. And what are some of the favorite things dogs like to do? Play, eat, and be social!
Keeping this in mind, I was able to distract him from hikers by exploiting these three common traits. His biggest thing was being fed, though. Poor guy seemed to have an endless appetite that would put even Shaggy and Scooby-Doo to shame. What better way to feed him than by letting him chow down on the monsters that were wrecking havoc in Griffin and Rhydin? So I hopped onto his back and was able to keep him from mistaking people for the undead and he did pretty good. For a snarling frightening beastie, Cerberus became a lovable bundle of joy when he was being fed and allowed to chase down his food.
